Hello to all, I'm LadyLucaze and I write The Epitome to encourage DIALOGUE and DISCOURSE on issues affecting African Americans today. From current events and politics to poetry and art ... I cover it all and in the process invite all of you to discuss the topics with me (not just read what I have to say). I want to hear what you have to say.
Coming from where I'm From: From DC Darling to Lady Lucaze ...
Born and raised in Alexandria, VA, most people thought I was going to follow in the footsteps of all the other Bryant women: strong, independent, educated, opinionated, Greek, OES, and generally revered by elite DC society ... Surprise!!
After I graduated from High School with an advanced diploma, I tried my hand at the DC Darling lifestyle and attended Georgetown University for a year in the Biology Department but found that my family's connections at other Universities such as Hampton, Morehouse and Meharry were getting in the way of prfessors paying attention to the quality of my work. I could have stayed and skated through ... and in retrospect, probably should have ... but that would have been a huge disservice to myself.
No, instead I shed my DC Darling image and fed to the Music City itself, Nashville, TN to attend a notorious HBCU ... Tennessee State University. The reputation wasn't as prestigious and some of my classmates probably very undeserving, but there I found myself ... Lady Lucaze! I stuck with biology only because it was my comfort zone, but in an elective during my junior year, African-American Philosophy with Dr. Hardy, I realized that there was a rathr opinionated Diva lurking beneath the surface and just waiting to come out.
So here I am, from DC Darling to Lady Lucaze, and loving every minute of it!
